THE SHORT ANSWER

Sim racing is an indoor activity where you drive a virtual race car using a simulator cockpit, steering wheel and pedals. At Paddock Toronto in North York, beginners and experienced drivers can book a session without owning a racing setup.

Before you start

  • A hands-on indoor activity, with staff helping you get started.
  • Book one rig for each person driving at the same time.
  • Birthday and corporate event enquiries are confirmed separately by staff.

01 / THE GUIDE

An activity you take part in

A racing session gives everyone something to do: learn the controls, build a clean lap and compare progress. You can aim for consistency, try a different car or race with friends. Being fastest is only one way to enjoy the visit.

Unlike watching a race, you make the steering, braking and throttle decisions yourself. Staff help with the equipment and explain the controls before you drive. Tell the team if this is your first experience so they can help you get comfortable.

02 / THE GUIDE

Choose the right format for your group

For a casual visit, choose a session length and check how many rigs are available together. There are five simulators, so up to five drivers can drive at once. A larger party should use the group enquiry form to discuss rotating drivers and timing.

A standard session and an OSRC tournament entry are different bookings. Choose a normal session for a flexible first visit; use the league page for the current iRacing tournament information.

What makes sim racing different from an arcade game?

A simulator asks you to connect what you see with what you feel through the steering wheel and pedals. Brake too late and the car can run wide; rush the throttle and the exit can become untidy. That connection gives a first visit a clear purpose: learn how your inputs change the lap. You can enjoy that process without knowing every circuit, owning racing equipment or arriving with a competitive lap time.

The cockpit is part of the experience. A comfortable seat position, a wheel you can reach naturally and pedals you can operate consistently make the car easier to understand. Let staff help before you start changing settings. Stronger steering resistance or a more demanding car does not automatically make a session more enjoyable. An approachable starting point gives you room to notice progress instead of spending the whole visit fighting the controls.

A birthday, a team outing or an ordinary evening?

For a small group, a normal session can be a straightforward choice: select the session length, the number of rigs and a time with enough availability for everyone. There are five simulators, so five is the maximum number of people who can drive simultaneously. Agree on the driving time before checkout. Reserving one three-hour session still reserves one simulator; it does not create three separate seats or an automatic rotation package.

For a birthday or corporate event, use the group enquiry form when you need help with a larger party, rotations or a particular event format. Include the occasion, approximate group size and preferred date. The team will confirm what can be arranged and the price. An enquiry is not an event reservation, and ordinary session pricing should not be treated as a confirmed private-event quote. Ask about café arrangements rather than assuming food or drinks are included.

Give your visit a simple goal

You do not have to race your friends immediately. A group can begin by learning the same circuit, then compare who makes the biggest improvement or completes the most consistent sequence of laps. That approach works particularly well when experience levels differ. An experienced driver can focus on precision while a newcomer concentrates on staying on the circuit. There is still plenty to discuss without making the evening depend on a single fastest lap.

THE DRIVING NOTEBOOK

Build a visit around your group

The right plan starts with how many people want to drive at the same time. Five rigs are available, subject to the live calendar.

Five simulator positions represent Paddock Toronto’s five rigs. Larger groups need a staff-confirmed rotation plan.

01

Count the drivers

Choose one rig per simultaneous driver. A longer session adds time, not another seat.

02

Choose a shared time

Use the live calendar for a standard session. Ask staff about birthdays and larger events.

03

Make a clear plan

For rotations or a private-event format, wait for the team to confirm the arrangements.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you book

Do I need sim racing experience?

No. Paddock staff help first-time drivers with the controls and equipment.

Can more than five people attend?

Larger groups can enquire about rotating drivers. Staff must confirm the format, availability and pricing.

Is a normal session the same as a private birthday booking?

No. Normal sessions use the live calendar. Private event arrangements, rotations and any extras need a confirmed quote from the team.

What should a mixed-experience group aim for?

Start with a familiar car and circuit, then compare clean laps or personal improvement. Staff can help newcomers with the controls.
